Laguna Plein Air Painters Association

Primary motivation for the formation of LPAPA was to link the strong plein air movement of the early California painters to the present ones and to create a bond amongst the contemporary plein air painters throughout the nation. LPAPA is dedicated to maintaining this bond through its newsletter, monthly paint outs, workshops, artist and signature member exhibitions, and fundraisers to help promote open spaces. The annual plein air painting invitational, which gathers some of the best landscape painters in the nation to picturesque Laguna Beach is our fundraiser to benefit the Laguna Art Museum and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.

Oil Painters of America

Oil Painters of America was founded in 1991 by Shirl Smithson primarily
to focus attention on the lasting value of fine drawing, color, composition
and the appreciation of light. As a beginner or a master painter, the
feeling of tremendous satisfaction that came from capturing that special
moment, realistically and spiritually, was a bond that united us all.
